I can agree that it is a tight market right now, even though I hear stories that the economy is getting "better." I have been in the nonprofit field since graduation from UP in 2000. Now I may be transitioning to financial services. I can say that this opportunity presented itself by networking alone. I would say be true to yourself and always open to meeting new people.
