ideal's job

Development—the gradual unfolding, make better, growth.

Many people seem to have one, well defined career—teacher, doctor, lawyer, engineer. Something they can hook into. I don’t really feel I have something larger I can hook into yet. I’ve been to school for engineering, have some nonprofit experience, and have been overseas.

Engineering. I like to take things apart and figure out how they work. I’m curious about all things technology related. Technology is not going away, so I think it’s a good idea to have some understanding of how it can improve my life. I like a challenge, and engineering seemed to offer a good dose of that.

Nonprofit. I want to use my skills to be helpful in the world. Nonprofits seem like a good forum to do that. I like the culture. I like the people who work in nonprofits.

International. The world is only getting smaller. I believe it is important to have an understanding of other people and places in the world. It will be important to have the ability to relate to other cultures in the future—as the US becomes more and more culturally diverse. I want to understand another culture intimately, to use my skills (technology, education, and youth development) to strengthen communities—wherever they may be. I also want to have an adventure. I like to have interesting experiences where I can learn new things and also share what I know.

I think engineering has given me a good mindset for systems, and how to make them better. I want to help make people healthier (the yoga thing). I want to help organizations run “better” (the organizational development thing).

My ideal job somehow involves as many of these words as possible: movement, service, inspiration, youth, education, technology.
